Whatever I Can Find in the Fridge Dinner

Lack of car means lack of fresh produce and meat.

I found a frozen chunk of ham that was leftover from Christmas? I can't even remember, but it had to be around that time. I instantly knew I wanted to make soup with it because that's the only reason I've been saving it. Jason kept telling me to throw it away because it was "wasting space" but after eating the soup, I knew he was thankful I didn't. ;)

With the bone in ham, I scoured my entire kitchen to find ingredients I can throw into the soup. I found frozen vegetables, potatoes, canned tomatoes, pasta and herbs.

I'm proud to say the soup came out pretty darn good considering I had no idea what I was doing and experimenting with whatever I had in the kitchen. Ahh, isn't that what's great about cooking?

you are definitely right about cooking, although recipes are nice, but they are just there for the basics (in my opinion). If you want to cook something from your heart and give some love (Carla's philosophy!), then it has to come from your own inspiration.

I wish I could whip stuff up like this! I'm always fumbling around desperately for ingredients to make something like this but then succumbing to the ease of driving to the closest fast food place. It looks pretty delicious!!

Omg Maggie, I totally did the same thing this weekend! Except I actually did have to drive to the store because I could not compromise on having no carrots and no chicken broth. I'll blog about it later, when Garry has a chance to take a picture of the resulting soup =) Bravo on your concoction.

Thanks Stephanie. :) Having no chicken broth is definitely a problem. haha. You should get powdered chicken broth http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51p96fBUZLL._SL500_AA280_.jpg from Ranch 99. It's a couple bucks for a canister and a convenient way to have instant chicken broth. It's obviously not the same as real chicken broth, but good enough...and always great to have on hand.
