The Go-to Place: The Trappist

Second time (see first time post) to The Trappist deemed it a "go-to place." It's a place where you want to have good Belgian beer (19 different ones on tap!) in a dark, handsome, pub-like atmosphere. Oh yea, and there aren't any pushy people or rude bartenders.

After dinner at Tony Roma's (see post), we headed to The Trappist and unlike last time, we didn't have as many beers - just one for the each of us.

Surprisingly, the only person that ordered something new was Jason. We each told the bartender what we liked and he gave recommendations. I got an Allagash White Ale, Mike, a Tripel Karmeliet and Jason, a St. Bernardus.

Fortunately, Allagash and Karmeliet were our favorites from last time, so we lucked out by getting them again.

If you're in the area, visit The Trappist - cool spot to have a glass of beer, or two. ;)

Beer, Beer + More Beer, Part 2

As mentioned earlier, here's the board from The Trappist with that night's beers on tap..

Sorry, it's not the best shot, but still a good idea of what I drank that night. :)

Beer, Beer + More Beer

My third attempt to The Trappist on 8th x Broadway in Oakland was a success. The first time my friends and I tried to go there, it was closed (day after Thanksgiving) and the second attempt, they're closed on Mondays.

It was well worth the wait.

The Trappist is a Belgian and specialty beer bar that features 15 rotating taps and over 140 specialty bottles. You won't be ordering a Mojito or a Bud Lite here! The atmosphere is cozy and pub-like. It's unfortunately too small and narrow, but that probably adds to the appeal and uniqueness.

My friends and I tried all 15 beers on tap. Wow, it was pretty entertaining trying all the different flavors. Each one of them had its own special taste and flavor. The overall consensus for the best one was De Struise Brouwers Tsjesses (picture 6, second cup from right). It was served in a small cup with a fresh, medium flavor. Very smooth and easy to drink.

The Trappist is a cool place to hang out with your friends and try new beer. The bartenders are friendly and well knowledged. If you're around Oakland area, give it a try. :)

I unfortunately don't have the picture with the entire tap menu from that night right now. As soon as I get home, I'll upload it so you can get an idea of the ones I tried (although, most of the cups did have the name of the beer printed on it).
