Pinkberry!

The fro-yo craze has definitely spread to the north, but Santana Row in San Jose was the first place to house the original fro-yo establishment, Pinkberry.

The first time I had Pinkberry was last year at The Grove in Los Angeles, another outdoor shopping mall. The yogurt was so good, all worth its hype.

Jason's never had Pinkberry and I wanted him to try it. Plus, we were already in Santana Row, so why not.

I tried one of their seasonal flavors, coconut, topped with fresh strawberries. Jason ordered another seasonal flavor, passion fruit with mochi and fresh kiwi. The coconut was good, but I liked the passion fruit better. It was more intense in flavor and the coconut was too similar to their original flavor.

Trying Pinkberry is a definite must, but there are a ton of other knock-offs that are as good at a more reasonable price.

Fro-yo

Ever since the rise of Pinkberry, frozen yogurt places have been popping up everywhere. I mean, everywhere! OK, it sounds like I'm repeating myself, and I am! See my first fro yo post here.

Last time Mike and I went to the Asian market in El Cerrito, we saw a new fro yo shop in the plaza and he was so ecstatic. :) A week later, he was craving for it, so we went to get some after dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant.

I don't remember the name, but one thing that's different about this place compared to others is you can pile all the toppings you want on your own and you'll be charged by the weight (39 cents per pound?).

It was a buffet of toppings. Everything from strawberries, kiwis, blueberries, cap'n crunch, mango, mochi, granola, dried coconut, blackberries...so many choices! There were several yogurt choices too - coffee, strawberry, original and green tea.

My boyfriend, not knowing it was sold by its weigh (haha), filled his yogurt cup to the top with strawberry yogurt. It looked pretty with its pink swirls and vibrant fresh strawberries and kiwi chunks.

My concoction was original yogurt with mochi, gummy bears, mango, strawberries and a little bit of kiwi. It was good, but the yogurt wasn't that good compared to others I've had. It wasn't frozen enough, kind of like it was already melting. And it was freezing cold, so there's no way it could have melted that fast. Definitely a cool idea to have a buffet of toppings though. :)
