Fresh From the Oven

This is pretty cool. BakerTweet is a device that tells the baker's followers on Twitter when fresh and hot items are out of the oven. The first bakery to implement is Albion in London (follow their tweets here). Reading their tweets is making me salivate......maybe I should stop by Miette for some sweets.

Anyways, check out the video.

New Oven

Oh boy, I have a lot of catching up to do. :X Finally 99% recovered - still wake up with a stuffy nose in the morning. :(

I got a new stove about two Wednesdays ago, I tested it out for the first time by cooking some napa cabbage. It's electric and I would have much much rather get gas, but my place only allows electric. Boo. It sure looks sleek though. I love the way it looks - who doesn't like a new toy? ;)

So far, so good. I enjoy it, looks super high tech with its bright red coils, but I'm so afraid to scratch it! The top is made of glass and I have to clean it with this special polish each time I finish cooking or it'd stain. I already left some white marks from BOILING water. argh. I was simply boiling water and I think there was some sort of weird chemical on the bottom of the pot that melted off. :( I can't get the spots off. Boo. Glass top - so much hassle.

China Announces Food Safety Rules

Sorry been MIA recently. Haven't had anything fabulous in the past few days. :(

Here's an article I read on NYTimes.com that is great news. I mean, come on now, FINALLY China! Ugh. I'm so paranoid about buying food from China. It's disheartening how shady these corporations are and what they'd do to try to make the cheapest product.

It's great that China will finally issue new laws and standards, let's just hope that they actually follow them....!

"BEIJING — The Chinese government, struggling to contain the fallout from a scandal over contaminated milk and eggs, announced a wide range of food safety measures on Thursday aimed at reining in abuses in the dairy industry.

The State Council, China's cabinet, issued several new rules it says will govern all aspects of the industry, from cow breeding and animal feed to the packaging and sales of milk...

Jamba + Bar Codes

I always look at ad annuals (best ads of the year) and wonder, where was I when THAT commercial aired, when did that campaign happen or is that for real?

It seems like the ads in the annuals are so out there and great, that it wasn't ever true or produced. But, I know I can't say such a thing because there are a bazillion ads that run each year and the ones that get into the annuals are the best of the best. So, it's reasonable that I never get a chance to see a certain campaign live.

A small Japanese agency called, Design Barcode, won a Titanium Lion at the International Advertising Festival in Cannes three years ago. Incorporating a bland item as a bar code with something artistic and graphic was such a great idea! I've never seen something like it and once I saw it, I was waiting for the day Americans to use this simple idea.

Finally, Jamba Juice did it. Jamba Juice recently released a new line of fruit smoothies available to purchase at grocery stores. While on my lunch break, I saw several people passing out samples of the drink on Market Street (this is why it's great to live in a big city. :) There are always companies passing out free samples). I immediately veered my way towards them to get one. As I was looking at the packaging, I instantly fell in love with the bar code.  The bar codes made cute little grass. It made me smile knowing that I've seen this before and finally, someone was doing it.

After work, I was walking the same way and they were still there! Grabbed another one. This time, the lines of the code became a swirl, Jamba's logo. I'm curious to see what other designs they have. I hope more companies use this idea because it's cute and makes something so boring and plain more interesting. :)

Although this isn't exactly related to what I "ate," it's related to food and I thought I'd share. :) Please note, the first two pictures are Design Barcode's winning entries.
