Sticky Bunz

A sweet colleague brought a box full of Dynamo sticky buns for a morning treat. I haven't had sticky buns in a long time and these sure were sticky - almost like taffy. Sticky and good, perfect with my morning latte.

Thanks Nina!

Good Morning, SF

Ray and Aki treated us a night at The Westin St. Francis, so we could all get ready together for the wedding in the morning.

I woke up pretty early, looked out of our 26th floor window and loved how peaceful Union Square looked. This popular tourist spot was silent. It was like the calm before the storm, with only a few people walking the streets.

I needed coffee since I knew the wedding day was going to be super busy. Luckily, we had a nice coffee brewer in our room with Starbucks. I'm more of a latte/mocha person, but a warm cup of roasted coffee definitely hit the spot.

LA Bound

The start of my Los Angeles trip was a big, greasy croissant sandwich from
Willow Creek Grill (terminal one) in San Francisco International Airport. Side track, I previously saw Sean Penn at this restaurant!

The sandwich consisted of bacon, scrambled eggs and cheese (even though I requested no cheese!) with a side of home fries.

My first reaction upon opening the container was, "holy cow, they just threw the food in there." I'm not expecting a five star presentation, but the food in the container looked so unappealing and was all over the place.

The potatoes definitely did not taste like home fries (crispy exterior crust), but more like mashed potatoes because of its small pieces. Plus, it had a weird curry-like taste to it.

The sandwich was okay, but I'd rather get a Burger King croissanwich. Shocked? I know. At least the BK version doesn't look as greasy as this one.

I only ate half of the meal and was already feeling gross from the bland flavor and all the grease. Next time (I always say this), I'll try to pack something at home beforehand, so I can save on money (this cost $9!) and eat healthier. I just need to wake up earlier...

I didn't see Sean Penn again, but I was heading to the city of stars, so maybe my luck will change once I land. ;)

Breakfast in the Woods

As previously mentioned, my friends and I went camping a couple of weeks ago. After a long five or so hour drive, we reached Castle Crags, up north near the town of Dunsmuir.

The first night was mellow, we didn't cook much since we were pretty tired, but I was excited to use my new heavy duty grill (image4) I bought just for the trip.

Jon started cooking tosino, a marinated Filipino pork dish. It's often served with a fried egg and I added my own twist by wrapping it in a tortilla. The tosino was juicy with a smoky flavor, crispy yet moist and delicious sandwiched with the egg in a tortilla. I can eat that breakfast, lunch AND dinner.

As for the grill. I'm loving it; such a great investment. It's easy to pack since the legs collapse and durable. I have so many new ideas on how I want to use it.

Campfire cooking is truly the best. Everything turns out so much better!

Middle of the Night/Morning Meal

After Pure, my friends and I were hungry and dragged ourselves to the nearest food establishment. I'm not sure what time it was, but I'm glad Vegas never closes!

We ended up at Augustus Cafe in the lobby of Caesar's (we were staying there). The service took forever, but I finally got my order of waffles. I haven't had waffles in such a long time, so this was comforting.

I felt guilty eating so late in the night, but I justified it by having my waffles with fresh, healthy berries. :P

Sunday Morning

Last Sunday, I cooked breakfast. I rarely cook breakfast, so it was a little bit of a surprise that I did. I usually eat breakfast at work and when I don't have work, by the time I wake up, it's lunch already or I'm too lazy to cook anything "breakfasty."

This meal is similar to my breakfasts at Gap - crunchy tater tots with two sunny eggs. My home version was hash browns with a sunny egg and salsa.

I absolutely love popping the yolk and letting the gooey-ness smother all over the potatoes. It is so good and comforting in the morning.

Monday Mornings, Part 2

Remember how my Monday was several weeks ago (see post)? It was a happy, HEALTHY Monday.

And then, it became this.

Krispy Kreme.

A colleague from another floor brought us a box full of hot, fresh, warm glazed doughnuts. How could I resist? It was so good. I'm salivating right now just thinking about it. My favorite doughnut is actually sugar coated. Oh man, one of those fresh from the oven....I'd die.

After downing the doughnut (I only took half!), I knew the week was going to be a good one. :)

Friday Food Frenzy

It was my creative director's birthday on Friday, so a colleague brought some delicious, sugar-filled donuts for breakfast. The box of goodies contained glazed, old fashioned, chocolate covered and crumbled. I took the crumbled and oh my, it was yummy. I haven't had a donut in a long time, so it tasted satisfying. But, at the same time, unhealthy. :X

For lunch, my cross-functional team left the office for a team building event. We decided to go to Daly City for lunch at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue and bowling. I didn't stay for bowling since I had to go back to the office, but I ate lunch with them at L&L.

L&L is a Hawaiian fast food restaurant. The menu is filled with all sorts of Hawaiian originals such as lau lau, barbecued short ribs/chicken/beef, katsu (breaded chicken, like the Japanese version), saimen (noodles), Kahlua pork and macaroni salad.

At any Hawaiian restaurant, I usually get the local favorite, "Loco Moco." It's a heavy meal with 2 hamburger patties, 2 eggs, rice and macaroni salad - all smothered with brown gravy. I smartly enough, ordered the mini version that was half the size. It came with only 1 patty, 1 egg, rice and macaroni salad. It was comforting, although, again, like the donut, felt a little unhealthy.

The little plastic cup next to my meal is called "hapai" or coconut pudding. It was only a dollar and it sure tasted cheap. :X It tasted like fake coconut and I knew it was made from coconut pudding powder. Oh well, what did I expect at a fast food chain?

And for dinner....see next post. :) This one's getting quite long.

Monday Mornings...

Should start off like this. :)

A catered breakfast of mini bagels, pastries, fruit salad, coffee, orange juice and tea. Sorry, I didn't take a picture of the entire spread. :T

The mini bagels are the cutest, yet deceiving. You eat "one more" thinking they're mini. Next thing you know, you've gobbled up 5. Not as though that happened to me...haha. Seriously, it didn't. ;)

Breakfast? Lunch? Dinner? At Four.

After yet another long night of drinking and hanging out with my friends, I finally got my lazy butt to wake up and start my Saturday at.....4pm.

I'm not sure what the name of the restaurant is, but it's on Geary x Larkin and attached to a grocery store called Mid City Foods. It's a pretty good Mexican place around my bf's neighborhood. For true, authentic Mexican food, you MUST go to the Mission. But when you're lazy, you only want to travel a three block radius. :P

I ordered a chicken enchilada dish and a large horchata. The enchilada came with black beans and cheese, rice ("fried" rice since it randomly came with peas and carrots. haha.), guacamole, sour cream and lettuce. The sauce on the enchilada was good, not too spicy, a mild flavor. But, I disliked the grilled chicken inside. It was dry and I thought the chicken was the pulled, boiled kind (what I like). That's what it should be! Enchiladas are soft and wet, the meat inside should compliment that.

Horchata's not bad. Tastes like it's fresh made....I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE horchata. The best one again, is in the Mission. Have you ever tried horchata ice cream? ooooo. By far, my favorite ice cream flavor. So good and no where to be found around here. :(
